Trenza 2007 Tinto #88
Ranked #88 in the World in the Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Wines of the Year
94 points Trenza 2007 Tinto (San Luis Obispo County); Unusual, distinctive, and a wonderful first release from this new brand, a member of the Niven (Baileyana) family of wines. A blend of Tempranillo, Mourvèdre and Grenache, it’s utterly dry, richly tannic and well-structured, with earthy flavors of cherries, blueberries, herbs, unsweetened cocoa, black pepper and other dusty spices. A brilliant and provocative wine from winemaker Christian Roguenant. Editors’ Choice. —S.H.
92 points Trenza 2008 Blanco (Edna Valley);
A wonderfully rewarding wine. It shows the dryness and crisp acidity you want in a savory white, and the fruit flavors, of peaches, grapefruits and green apples, are controlled and subtle. There’s just a touch of oak, which adds softness, and of creamy lees. Brilliant and distinctive. Albariño and Grenache Blanc. Editors’ Choice. —S.H.
90 points Trenza 2008 Rosado (San Luis Obispo County);
After all those sweet, heavy California rosés, here’s one that truly brims with Provençal-style dry elegance. It’s a wonderful wine, with crisp acidity framing herb and tobacco flavors and suggestions of tart cherries, orange rind and vanilla. Impeccable. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. —S.H.
